FIRST EDITION 2026 REGISTRATIONS OPEN

RIDDER, ski touring in the Siberian powder of Kazakhstan

Ski touring in Western Altai, near the city of Ridder, offers the chance to enjoy perfect fresh snow in northeastern Kazakhstan. Since no high-altitude acclimatization is needed, this region is ideal for skiers and snowboarders of all levels. The Altai Mountains are covered in deep, pristine snow as early as November, and the skiable area extends over 100 km². You can expect freeride zones tucked in the woods, wide alpine slopes, cozy mountain huts, warm local hospitality, and a relaxing après-ski in a charming town. Western Altai is undoubtedly one of the best off-piste destinations in Kazakhstan and lets you plan a ski holiday as early as December!!!

Travel program

Day 1: After arriving at Ust-Kamenogorsk airport, we'll head toward the city of Ridder, following a scenic route through the snow-capped peaks of the Altai Mountains. After check-in and settling into the hotel, we'll have an introductory briefing to prepare for the tour and check everyone's individual gear.

Day 2: The first day kicks off with a check of individual skills and equipment, along with dedicated snow safety training: using beacons, shovels, and probes, group management, and safety protocols. These essential skills will ensure you're safer during the trips and will be useful for all your future ski excursions. Once the training session is complete, we'll explore nearby ski touring routes for a first taste of Siberian snow. Snowmobiles or snowcats will take us into pristine fresh snow and hidden freeride spots that few have had the luck to discover.

Day 3 – 7: For five days, we'll venture out to discover the most exciting and untouched routes of Western Altai. To reach the best starting points for off-piste skiing, we'll use the lifts to gain elevation quickly without too much effort; from there, our legs and climbing skins will allow us to explore the surrounding mountains. Away from the crowds, you can enjoy fresh powder, breathtaking views, and unforgettable descents on tracks thoroughly tested by our local partners. In the evening, relaxation is guaranteed by a traditional Eastern dastarkhan (banquet): recharge in a hot sauna and share stories with the group during dinner in a warm, convivial atmosphere.

Days 8 – 9: We'll wrap up the week with a short morning ski excursion, giving you one last chance to enjoy the mountains and the powdery snow of Ridder. In the afternoon, we'll transfer to the hotel, and the following day you'll board your international return flight. You'll take home lasting memories of endless powder descents, stunning landscapes, and a strong desire to return.

NB The program may undergo changes in the price/timetables/location of overnight stays due to the unavailability of services (flights/overnight stays) to be verified when booking. On site, in less than optimal weather and safety conditions, the guide will confirm the itineraries included in the program day by day.
