Ski mountaineering in Senja, the magical island north of the Arctic Circle

Senja Island is located about 300 km north of the Arctic Circle, on the northwestern coast of Norway. It is the country’s second-largest island and is variously known as “the magical island” or “Norway in miniature,” due to the wide variety of landscapes found here. You will encounter deep fjords, alpine peaks, and rolling terrain dotted with lakes and summits.

The highest peaks reach 1,000 m, making them excellent objectives for day trips, with many descending directly to the sea and offering breathtaking views. For stronger and more experienced skiers, there are numerous options for link-ups, traverses, and steep descents to make the days truly memorable. The island also has a well-developed road network, allowing access to even the most remote areas in about an hour from where we stay.
