Five days of powder and spectacular descents.
Welcome to the Urner Haute Route, the historic traverse that winds through the heart of the Swiss Alps between Andermatt (Canton of Uri) and Engelberg, connecting two world-famous freeride resorts renowned for the deepest powder in the entire Alpine arc.
This region, nestled between three famous alpine passes—St. Gotthard, Oberalp, and Furka—is considered one of the most interesting areas for ski touring and freeriding in Europe.
Along this itinerary, also known among mountain guides as "The skiers' route," we will move from south to north: we will climb the short but steep southern slopes and ski the long descents on the northern faces, which are colder and better for powder.
Our adventure on the Urner Haute Route starts in Realp, the last village in the Andermatt valley. The meeting is scheduled for the previous afternoon in Engelberg, the ski resort that will also mark the end point of the traverse. The following morning, we will move to Realp by a means of transport to be defined, where our ski journey through the Swiss snow will begin.
In the following days, we will cross the majestic massifs of Dammastock, Sustenhorn, and Titlis, staying in a different hut each night: starting with the Albert Heim Hütte, then the Chelenalphütte, the Steingletscher Hotel, and finally the beautiful Sustlihütte for the last night.
The highest point of the traverse, at an impressive 3502 meters, will be the summit of Sustenhorn.
Every day will offer long runs on perfect slopes and fresh snow, immersed in a wild and uncrowded landscape. An authentic experience where snow is the protagonist and the silence of the mountains accompanies every turn.
The Urner Haute Route is a great alternative to the more famous Chamonix-Zermatt Haute Route: ideal for those looking for a more technical, less crowded experience, or for those who have already completed other tours in the Alps and want something different.

DAY 1. From Realp to Albert Heim Hütte
Meeting in the morning at 10 AM in Realp/Andermatt, a picturesque town and starting point of our five-day ski traverse. From here, we will begin the ascent along sunny slopes, entering the high valley dominated by the Galenstock. We will overnight at the Albert Heim Hütte, with its wide and unmatched mountain views.
Elevation gain: +1200 m
Duration: approx. 4 hours
DAY 2. From Albert Heim Hütte to Chelenalphütte
We will set off at dawn, headlamps on, tackling an initial descent that leads to the valley rising toward Lochberg (3039 m), our first summit, with a more technical final section requiring crampons and ice axe. An incredible descent will take us to the Chelenalptal dam, from where we will climb up to the small Chelenalphütte hut for the night.
Elevation gain/loss: + 1800 m / - 2100 m
Duration: approx. 9 hours
DAY 3. From Chelenalphütte to Steingletscher
A day of spectacular descents along the Urner Haute Route. After a short but steep initial slope, we will gently ascend to the Sustenlimi pass, at the base of the beautiful ski summit of Sustenhorn. From the summit, we will descend for over a kilometer and a half along the glacier to reach the Susten Pass and the Steingletscher Hotel, where we will spend the night.
Elevation gain/loss: + 1200 m / - 1800 m
Duration: approx. 7.5 hours
DAY 4. From Steingletscher to Sustlihütte
Skinning up the Obertal valley, we will climb toward the Funffingerstock (the "five fingers"), then ski down the Chli Sustli glacier. We will intersect the track leading up to the Sustlihütte, where we will spend the night after a final 300-meter climb.
Elevation gain/loss: + 1600 m / - 1300 m
Duration: approx. 7 hours
DAY 5. From Sustlihütte to Engelberg
The final day of descent. From the Sustlihütte, we will climb to the Stossensattel and then complete the spectacular traverse of the Grassen (2946 m). From the summit, one of the longest descents in the area awaits us: 1800 meters along the Furenalp, just above the Engelberg valley. Return to Realp by taxi.
Elevation gain/loss: + 950 m / - 2200 m
Duration: approx. 6 hours
