Micol Casaleggio

Medium mountain guide, UIMLA Guide

I am Micol Casaleggio, a geologist and a lifelong athlete, from horse riding to climbing. In 2019, I became a Mid-Mountain Guide and joined the team of "Società Guide Alpine Finale" as a trekking guide. In 2022, I earned the title of International Mountain Leader, gaining certification for leading expeditions on snowy terrain, including avalanche self-rescue training (avalanche transceiver, shovel, and probe), which led to my registration with UIMLA, the international reference organization for trekking leadership worldwide. For me, trekking is not just walking; it is the beginning of a journey in harmony with nature. It is a way of being, one that we must savor with awareness step by step. When trekking, we must understand its techniques and secrets, always remembering that we never challenge nature. Instead, we travel its trails and mountains to discover ourselves.

Travel program

Day 1: Chania – Exploring the City On our first day in Crete, we will immerse ourselves in the unique atmosphere of Chania, a city that radiates warmth and hospitality. The locals, known for their friendliness, will make us feel at home right away. We'll have free time to explore the picturesque alleys and taste local flavors, but it will also be the perfect opportunity to socialize and get to know each other better. A walk to the lighthouse will certainly be a highlight of the day; from there, we can capture photos that immortalize the magnificent contrast between the deep blue sea, the historic city, and the towering mountains in the background. It will be an unforgettable start to our journey together.

Day 2: Chora Sfakion – Loutro We'll take a bus to Chora Sfakion, the starting point of our Cretan trekking adventure, with the first stop in Loutro. Chora Sfakion, with its charming bay, is the ideal departure point for those who love breathing in the salty air and immersing themselves in Mediterranean culture. The trail is perfect for warming up the muscles without overexertion, staying close to the coast and offering wonderful views of the crystal-clear sea. Arriving in Loutro feels like a dream: a picturesque white village nestled between mountains, accessible only by foot or boat, preserving an atmosphere of peace and tranquility. After a traditional local lunch, a short transfer will take us to our overnight accommodation, a hidden gem that promises to surprise and enchant every visitor with its uniqueness.

Trail details: 8 km, +200 m elevation gain

Day 3: Marmara Bay – Agia Rumeli We quickly reach Marmara Bay, a stunning beach also accessible only by foot or boat, from which the trail continues, varying between solid rock and soft sand. Along the way, we encounter the picturesque spot of Agios Pavlos, featuring a fairytale-like chapel built on the beach. The journey continues to Agia Rumeli, a village at the entrance of the famous Samaria Gorge. For those seeking extra adventure, there's an opportunity to explore the gorge during the afternoon free time.

Trail details: 16 km, +450 m elevation gain

Day 4: Domata/Tripiti – Soughia Using a water taxi to reach Domata or Tripiti is an excellent choice to fully enjoy the beauty of the region without facing overly challenging routes. The first part of the trail, while spectacular, is quite demanding, with narrow passages and wonderful views that require the skills and characteristics of experienced hikers. Opting for the water taxi allows you to save energy and time for the second part of the route, which offers equally enchanting views but with a more relaxed approach. Tripiti Beach is a gem, with rocks sculpted by wind and sea that look like natural works of art. After a day of exploration, Soughia offers a pleasant refuge with its welcoming atmosphere. Finally, dining at a local restaurant, where warm Greek hospitality blends with delicious traditional cuisine, is the ideal way to end the day.

Trail details: 12 km, +700 m elevation gain

Day 5: Soughia – Paleochora The last day of trekking in Crete will be a summary of the wonders of this journey. The route offers continuous views of characteristic landscapes and crystal-clear sea that seems to merge with the horizon. The day will be enriched by a touch of history in the charming village of Lissos, where we'll have the opportunity to admire the ancient mosaic of the temple, a testament to the island's rich past. Arriving in Paleochora, our journey will conclude with free time to explore and discover the secrets of this location. Whether you choose to relax on the beach or wander through the town's streets, this day will be the perfect culmination of an adventure worth sharing!

Trail details: 16 km, +500 m elevation gain

Day 6: Chania – Free Time Bus transfer back to Chania, where we'll have the day free to be simple tourists and buy souvenirs for those back home.

Day 7: Departure Take off for Italy.

NB The program may undergo changes in the price/timetables/location of overnight stays due to the unavailability of services (flights/overnight stays) to be verified when booking.
