Five days of powder and spectacular descents.
Welcome to the Urner Haute Route, the historic traverse that winds through the heart of the Swiss Alps, between Andermatt (Canton Uri) and Engelberg, linking two world-renowned freeride destinations famous for having the deepest powder in the entire Alpine arc.
This region, nestled between three iconic Alpine passes — the Gotthard, Oberalp, and Furka — is considered one of the most exciting areas for ski touring and freeride in Europe.
Along this route, also known among mountain guides as “The Skier’s Way,” we’ll move from south to north: climbing the short but steep southern slopes and skiing down the long northern faces, colder and better suited for powder.
Our adventure on the Urner Haute Route begins in Realp, the last village in the Andermatt valley. The meeting point is scheduled for the previous afternoon in Engelberg, the ski resort that also marks the end of the traverse. The following morning, we’ll transfer — by a vehicle to be defined — to Realp, where our ski journey through the Swiss snow will begin.
In the days that follow, we’ll cross the majestic Dammastock, Sustenhorn, and Titlis ranges, spending each night in a different mountain hut: starting with the Albert Heim Hütte, then the Chelenalphütte, the Steingletscher Hotel, and finally the beautiful Sustlihütte for the last night.
The highest point of the traverse, standing at an impressive 3,502 meters, will be the summit of the Sustenhorn.
Each day will offer long runs on perfect slopes and fresh snow, surrounded by a wild and little-traveled landscape. An authentic experience, where snow takes center stage and the silence of the mountains accompanies every turn.
The Urner Haute Route is a great alternative to the more famous Chamonix–Zermatt Haute Route: ideal for those seeking a more technical, less crowded experience, or for those who have already explored other Alpine tours and are looking for something different.
