Argentera Sigismondi Ridge

A ridge climbing itinerary characterized by moderate difficulty and extraordinary views: on the clearest days, you can spot the French Riviera and sometimes even the profile of the Corsican peaks during the ascent. It is a fairly long route that requires careful alternation between moving together (simul-climbing) and pitched climbing in sections where difficulty and exposure increase.

In this context, the presence of a mountain guide is essential not only to ensure adequate ascent times and safety, but also to allow those who already have a good technical level to refine their progression techniques and rope team management on an aesthetic and educational ridge.

At the beginning of the season (June-July), if snow conditions allow, it is possible to combine the Sigismondi Ridge with the ascent of the Freshfield Couloir, starting from Rifugio Bozano and thus completing a loop of great technical and environmental interest.

This program will lead you into the heart of the Cuneo mountains, one of the wildest and most pristine corners of the Alps. Due to these characteristics, it will be conducted with the accompaniment of UIAGM mountain guides from Globalmountain-Guide Alpine Cuneo, professionals specialized in high-altitude environments.

Travel program

DAY 1: transfer by private car to Terme di Valdieri and then to Pian della Casa (approx. 1700 m). From here, you'll hike up in about 2 hours to Rifugio Remondino (2450 m) for dinner and an overnight stay.

DAY 2: the route initially winds through large boulder fields; quickly leaving the path to Passo dei Detriti, you'll climb along tracks up a gravelly gully leading to Colletto Freshfield. From here, you'll rope up to begin the ascent on the Sigismondi Ridge, which starts with wide north-facing slabs overlooking the rugged Argentera basin. Continuing on, the ridge becomes increasingly sharp, bright, and panoramic, crossing the Purtscheller and Genova peaks in succession until reaching the Argentera Shoulder via an airy path, from which the summit is quickly gained. The descent follows the Normal Route, returning to Passo dei Detriti and then back to Rifugio Remondino.

NB The program may undergo changes in the price/timetables/location of overnight stays due to the unavailability of services (flights/overnight stays) to be verified when booking. On site, in less than optimal weather and safety conditions, the Alpine Guide will confirm the itineraries included in the program day by day.
