Here is the Monte Rosa Spaghetti Tour reimagined for ski touring: if you have the fitness and skills, why not end the season on a high note? Accompanied by one of our certified mountain guides, enjoy a five-day "marathon" across the most prestigious 4,000ers in the Alps, surrounded by unparalleled views ranging from the Matterhorn to Monte Rosa, sloping down toward the green Po Valley and the blue of its great lakes.
This is a high-level experience in every sense, taking place in an absolutely spectacular playground on the border between Italy and Switzerland (with overnight stays in huts on the Italian side, hence the name "Spaghetti" by which the tour is known to English-speaking clients): from the Western Breithorn, we continue toward Pollux and Castor, then cross the Naso del Lyskamm and climb up to Capanna Margherita on Punta Gnifetti, at an altitude of 4,554 meters. The tour finally concludes by reaching Punta Zumstein, which offers a magnificent view of the Dufourspitze, and then descending to Punta Indren.
Travel program
DAY 1: meeting in Cervinia at 7:30 AM, individual equipment check, and departure via lifts to climb to Piccolo Cervino. This marks the official start of the Spaghetti Tour, with the climb to the first 4,000-meter peak: Western Breithorn (4165 m), which helps us get acclimated and find our pace. A traverse descent leads to Central Breithorn (4160 m) across the vast glaciers below Roccia Nera and Pollux, reaching the welcoming Guide Val d’Ayas Hut. Dinner and overnight stay.
DAY 2: wake up before dawn for a ski touring ascent of Castor (4,226 m) along its northern slope, completing the traverse by crossing the Colle del Felik (4,093 m), and finally enjoying a beautiful ski down on corn snow to Rifugio Sella. Dinner and overnight stay.
DAY 3: starting early, we climb the Felik Glacier and then the Lys Glacier to complete the traverse ascent of the Naso del Lyskamm (4,272 m). Descending the southeastern slope, we encounter Balmenhorn (Cristo delle Vette, 4,167 m) and the Vincent Pyramid (4,215 m), which we climb in succession with some skinning before descending for a well-deserved rest at Capanna Gnifetti.
DAY 4: departure at dawn, climbing the Lys Glacier again to complete the traverse ascent of Corno Nero (4,322 m) and the Ludwigshöhe (4,342 m) and Parrot (4,436 m) peaks, arriving without too much haste and after some short but beautiful descents at Punta Gnifetti, home to the highest hut in Europe, Capanna Margherita (4,554 m). We stay overnight here, enjoying the fabulous sunset over the Lyskamm and the breathtaking sunrise over the Piedmont plains.
DAY 5: after a short descent to the vast Colle Gnifetti, we make the final ascent of the Spaghetti Tour, completing our "feast" of twelve 4,000ers in five days: Punta Zumstein (4,564 m), which offers a magnificent view of the Dufourspitze, the highest peak in the massif, and the Macugnaga valley. A beautiful and grand final descent takes us back to Punta Indren or—snow permitting—down to the Gabiet middle station. After taking the lifts down to the valley, the tour concludes with a taxi ride back to Cervinia.
