A unique itinerary in Europe, the Fisherman Trail winds for almost 200 km along a rugged and wild coast: so named in honor of the fishermen who have traveled it since ancient times, it offers a chance for easy trekking in a unique environmental context. The territory consists of a slightly undulating moorland, populated by low vegetation and marine fauna, which breaks off abruptly—often sheer and with steep rocky cliffs—over the Atlantic Ocean, which crashes here with spectacular waves. Whale sightings are anything but rare!! A reflective walk, then, that encourages you to "take it easy" and explore rocky inlets, hidden beaches, and gorges at the bottom of which the sea roars.
The Fishermen's Trail is an easy path, but it requires a fair amount of walking fitness, as it takes place largely on sandy paths.
Travel program
Day 1: transfer by bus from Lisbon (about 2 hours) to Porto Covo; visit the charming tourist resort, dinner on your own, and overnight stay at a typical hotel restaurant located at the start of the Fishermen's Trail.
Day 2: departure from the village of Porto Covo; with a small descent followed by the crossing of a recessed bay, you climb back up to reach the cliffs, which you'll follow all day along a route that alternates between beaches and cliffs overlooking the ocean. In rough sea conditions, the sight of waves attacking the mainland until they almost completely climb the cliffs is unique! Arrival in Vila Nova de Milfontes in the afternoon. Dinner on your own and overnight stay.

Day 3: departure from the small port of Vila Nova de Milfontes near Fort S. Clement, with a short ferry crossing to cross the Mira River; the Fishermen's Trail continues through dunes, cultivated areas, woods, and cliffs in an always spectacular environment to reach the village of Almograve. A relatively short stage that leaves room for breaks on the beach and possibly a swim in the ocean. Dinner on your own and overnight stay.

Day 4: after passing the beautiful Almograve beach, the Trilho dos Pescadores heads back into a stunning territory made of a continuous succession of high cliffs, sand dunes, and colorful stretches of red earth. After a short stretch further from the ocean, you return to its shores at Cabo Sardao, then continue to the fishing village of Porto das Barcas to finally reach the enchanting Zambujeira do Mar, with its suggestive beach to be enjoyed at dusk.
