A unique journey to Svalbard – Spitzbergen, the islands located 640 km north of Cape Nord, once considered an essential passage for Dutch explorers searching for the Indies. Extreme polar landscapes offer top-quality ski mountaineering in the land of the polar bear, characterized by endless days under the midnight sun. This tour is considered "soft" (relative to the fact that we are in Svalbard!) because, unlike our other tour in the islands (see Atomfjella program), accommodation is always in heated chalets, where guests dine at the table and sleep in a comfortable bed. Additionally, approaches to the mountains can be made with the help of snowmobiles, avoiding the need for ski transfers through flat areas. A wonderful opportunity, accessible even to those less inclined toward adventure, to discover Arctic nature.
Travel program
A ski mountaineering program in one of the wildest and most fascinating regions on the planet—an incredible opportunity to explore the Arctic world. The land of the Polar Bear offers breathtaking landscapes and demands attention and respect for its extreme, fragile, and harsh environment. Travel is always in small groups, led by an Alpine Guide and a Local Guide specializing in polar bear safety—after all, this is a top predator that fears no one! Some key precautions will be essential to enjoy fantastic skiing while also maintaining a safe distance from this magnificent creature, capturing unforgettable photos, and taking home unique emotions.
Thanks to the Krekling and Svea chalets, we’ll enjoy a warm and comfortable stay in a setting where, even in May, everything around us is still ice and snow. The high sun throughout the day allows us to ski at any hour, immersed in an almost surreal atmosphere. The program includes collaboration with a local operator for transport to Krekling and later to the Svea cabin via snowmobile—a 30 km journey from Longyearbyen through Arctic fjords and tundra populated by seals and polar bears. Participants will have the chance to drive this vehicle, which has partly replaced traditional sled dogs. In Svalbard–Spitzbergen, you can experience the wild nature without sacrificing modern comforts!
