Ski Mountaineering in Val di Rhêmes

Entering Val di Rhêmes, nestled between Valsavarenche and Valgrisenche in the lower Aosta Valley, one immediately gets the impression of being dwarfed by towering mountains. Steep slopes branch into rocky buttresses from which imposing waterfalls plunge, resonating through the valley floor. Snow cones persist well into the season, and larches climb along the cliffs, adding color to the austere landscape.
Arriving in Rhêmes-Notre-Dame, the space opens up, and the view stretches freely upwards, across pastures and glaciers that peek above the greenery. Even higher, the massive rocky peak of Granta Parei, the undisputed Queen of the Valley, emerges.

Three days dedicated to spring ski mountaineering in high Val di Rhêmes will lead us to explore these vast mountains on the border with France, with a fixed base at Rifugio Benevolo, nestled in the sunlit basin at the foot of the valley's main peaks.

Travel program

Day 1: Early morning meeting (the time will be communicated to participants in the group chat) at Rhêmes-Notre-Dame, Thumel locality (1,850 m). Ascending the Gran Vaudala valley, we will climb Punta Palettaz (3,024 m), then traverse down with a spectacular ski descent to Rifugio Benevolo. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Ascent to Punta Calabre (3,351 m) with a spectacular route at the foot of Granta Parei and views of the sharp Tsanteleina. Descent via the ascent route and return to Rifugio Benevolo. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Wide slopes lead to the head of the valley, allowing the ascent to Punta Basei (3,355 m). A long descent, alternating between snowy humps and small valleys, leads back to Rifugio Benevolo, from where we descend to the valley to conclude the itinerary.

NB The program may undergo changes in the price/timetables/location of overnight stays due to the unavailability of services (flights/overnight stays) to be verified when booking. On site, in less than optimal weather and safety conditions, the Alpine Guide will confirm the itineraries included in the program day by day.
